Sonia Kashuk: Sugar Rush & OPI: Fiercely Fiona

I’m almost back to feeling 100% after being on my death bed. I have a looming cough that won’t quit, but I’m hoping that will subside eventually. Sooner rather than later of course.

Fiercely Fiona is one of my beloved polishes. I adore the green-y yellow hue that is oddly interesting yet approachable and cheery.  I needed something to cheer me up so I pulled out Fiercely Fiona, but also wanted something clean and fresh. That’s where Sugar Rush came in.

Natural pink with a fun green-y yellow accent

Sugar Rush is a really pretty natural, slightly sheer blush pink. It takes a bit of time to dry, which is annoying, but I really like this polish. It just brightens everything up. A “your nails but better” type of polish. Fiercely Fiona is from the Shrek collection. A chartreuse creme to me. A green-y yellow that is fun, but still interesting and a bit sophisticated since it could be deemed as a bit ugly. I really like this color combination and manicure. It’s something different.

Accent nails

I used two coats of Sugar Rush. This polish takes a bit of time to dry, which is annoying. But I did apply two thicker coats to get a more opaque look from it. For Fiercely Fiona, I also used two coats. This polish applies just a touch streaky on first coat, but evens out with no problem by the second. And wish no drying issues at all.

Where To Buy (Sugar Rush): Target.com / $ 5

Where To Buy (Fiercely Fiona): Online Retailers / $ 5

Do you own either of these polishes? Do you like either of them? Did I make you want either of them? :)

OPI: Got A Date To-Knight?

I picked this up as an impulse buy on clearance at Ulta recently. This is definitely not a “me” color at all, but I’ve really enjoyed wearing it. Although my skin is warm toned, I thought this cool toned polish looked great on me. It was released in 2009′s Prince Charming Collection. Cute name too!

Cool toned pink jelly

The photos really speak for this polish; there isn’t too much to say. It’s a cool toned, pink jelly. Almost bubble gum pink. There is something about this polish that looks great. It’s cheerful and girly. With one coat, it could be a “your nails but better” polish as well.

Super easy application

The formula on this polish was pretty flawless. It went on so smooth and easy. And considering that it is a jelly, it was pretty opaque. I used two coats for this manicure. It went on completely smooth and dried evenly and quickly. Look at how shiny it is!

Where to Buy: Online Retailers / Ulta / $ 6 – $ 8

Do you own Got A Date To-Knight? Or any other polishes from the Prince Charming collection? Is pink one of your go to manicure colors? I prefer it for pedicures, but cant wait to wear this polish again! It’s basically the perfect pink.

Zoya: Kennedy

I know a lot of polish collectors have a soft spot for pinks. It’s classic, traditional, pretty, etc. I, however, don’t have that gene. I’m not partial to pink anything actually, but when it comes to polish, I try to like every color. I started off thinking Kennedy might win me over, but something was just a bit off.

Soft, ballet pink creme

Kennedy is a very soft, subtle pink creme. It’s very natural and neutral, something that isn’t normally my thing, but I appreciate the crispness and cleanness of polishes like this and find myself liking them more recently. However, there was something about this polish that looked almost muddy on me. Or maybe not as pretty as it could be on someone else? It didn’t look bad, I just felt like something was a bit off. I did get a compliment on it while shopping, which honestly doesn’t happen often with me and my manicures. It’s just not my favorite soft pink I own.

Easy application

Like the rest of this Zoya Feel collection, I didn’t experience any difficulties with formula or application. I actually have found these cremes to be very painless to apply. I used two coats and got full, even coverage. I also got a pretty quick drying time. Though wear for me hasn’t been great. My only application tip would to be make sure your first coat is dry to avoid any bald spots.

Where to Buy: Zoya.com / $ 8

Zoya: Avery

Please excuse my sub-par photos for this post. I knicked my polish hanging new sheers in my bedroom the other night, but still really wanted to blog and post for you guys. Bare with me.

When I saw swatches of the new Zoya Feel Winer collection the other morning, I ordered them all immediately. There was something about the creamy, dreamy, grey-ed out neutrals that felt winter-y in a non-gimicky kind of way. Not to mention, all the colors look gorgeous together as a collection.

Creamy, peachy nude creme

Avery was the polish I was most excited to try. The gorgeous, nude, beige-y peach (with a touch of pink even?) looks gorgeous. It looks literally like foundation in the bottle. As you can tell, it didn’t give me much of a “mannequin hands” look; I think it actually clashed somewhat with my skintone. To my disappointment, something about this polish was off on me. I thought it looked so dreamy and innocent in the bottle, but ended up looking somewhat frumpy and “blah” on me. I’m so bummed!

I didn’t have too much of an issue with application. It wasn’t as wonderfully smooth a formula as we all are accustomed to with Zoya, but it wasn’t awful. I would suggest applying two thick coats for evenness and to avoid streaks.

Where to Buy: Zoya.com / $ 8

I will say that I think this opaque creme finish is…a little heavy for me. I feel like it never looks right to me. I wish there was some micro-shimmer thrown in, or that these polishes were the jelly-creme hybrid that I personally prefer compared to traditional cremes. Something to lighten up the finish. What do you guys think? Are you excited about these colors? Or do they seem boring to you? Do you find them “winter-y” by any means? Or interesting regardless of the season?

Wet N Wild: Tickled Pink

This polish was an impulse buy at Walgreens a few months ago. I was in a phase of bingeing hard on stuff at Walgreens. (Also known as being bored on Friday night). It was an impulse buy because I’m not a pink girl, especially not cotton candy / bubblegum pink.

Cool toned, bubble gum pink creme

The color of this polish speaks for itself. I mean, it’s basically as girly as they come. A light, cool toned, pink creme. Pretty standard for a girl’s collection. Shockingly though, this is the only one I own. It’s pretty similar to my favorite of this group (that I don’t own) Essie’s I Need A Vacation. It’s weird, I actually quite enjoyed wearing this polish.

Not the best formula, but it's inexpensive

Wet N Wild actually delivers most times on quality for their inexpensive nail polish (and other beauty products). But the application on this polish wasn’t very good. I did have some streaks and bald spots, and major chipping by the end of the day. (I seriously need to step up my top coat game though). The brush sticks are pretty long too, because the bottles are tall, and that makes application a bit difficult.

Where to Buy: Drugstores / $ 1.99

Do you wear barbie pink polish a lot? What’s your favorite pink polish? I need to get more “classic” manicure colors, such as pinks and cremes, so I’d be open to suggestions!

Zoya: Dree and Urban Outfitters: Afterhours

I hope all of our readers dealing with the hurricane are safe. That’s scary!

I recently got my order of the new fall 2011 Zoya collection, and Dree was the first one I wanted to try. I had also been toying with the idea of using this Urban Outfitters holo glitter and thought the balance of masculine army green and girly light pink holo glitter would be a fun contrast. I ended up wishing I had just done Dree, which isn’t surprising at all.

Creamy almost muted army green and pink glitter holo

Dree is a rather interesting color. It’s an army / olive green creme, but it has that hint of dustiness to it. And also has a good amount of grey in it so it’s mellow and a much calmer green. It’s absolutely ideal for fall, and for the not common green polish wear-er. It’s sophisticated and pretty. I love it. Afterhours is a chunky pink holographic glitter polish. I thought it was a bit more taupe. Nothing too special or too “me”.

Smooth Zoya application

Like every other Zoya creme I own, this went on like a dream. Buttery smooth with zero issues. I only needed two coats for full opacity. And believe it or not, I have also gotten pretty great wear on this manicure. It’s day four and I have minimal chipping. That’s always a huge, huge plus for me.

Where to Buy: (Dree) Zoya.com / $ 8

Where to Buy Afterhours: Urban Outfitters / UrbanOutfitters.com / $ 4

I’m really excited to wear the rest of the Fall 2011 Zoya’s I ordered. Did you get Dree? What polishes from the collection did you get? Or which ones caught your eye?

Have a nice True Blood Sunday.

Essie: Bermuda Shorts….? Part 2

I recently posted this blog entry about a great summertime polish, Bermuda Shorts, and mentioned how I had a different bottle of Bermuda Shorts than seen in swatches and real life. So, out of curiosity, I recently borrowed my best friend’s bottle of BS to see the difference between colors. And after that, I think there’s more than two different versions out there.

More purple than my bottle of BS

As visible in the bottle side by side photo, this bottle of Bermuda Shorts is more purple than mine. It’s a pretty balance of pink and purple that is reminiscent of a tropical flower or something pretty like that. It has a mix of pink and purple, but is deeper in color from having more purple. I like how it’s saturated and noticeable, but isn’t screaming loud since it’s not overly bright. It has a deeper tone to it. This polish also dried matte.

Smooth finish, easy to apply

Similar to my bottle of BS, this one was easily applied. Sometimes with neon’s there’s a big issue with unevenness, pigmentation, or being too chalky, but this is the opposite of that. It has a really nice formula and application. It dries quickly (which is nice) and I only needed two coats for a pretty finish.

Now, I still think there is another version of this polish out there. When I look up swatches (like this one), I can see a clear difference in color from this version of BS; it seems to be much more vibrant and more purple. I mean, I guess lighting or editing could have something to do with the difference in that photo, but I’m not sure. It looks much more purple and creamier (if that makes sense). Where ever a bottle of that Bermuda Shorts is, it looks really awesome.

Orly: Oh Cabana Boy

This is another summer favorite of mine. It’s very summer-y. This is probably the most summer-y color that I own. It’s pink. It’s neon. It’s loud. Not all things I normally like, but this polish is spot on. This is a great manicure AND pedicure color, for sure.

The perfect neon hot pink!

Oh Cabana Boy is a hot, pink. It’s a neon, so it dries matte. It’s very cool toned, which I really like. It’s not too light or dark, a nice medium base color. It also has this kind of special violet / slightly fushica flash that comes out at certain angles. It has a slight shimmer finish that makes this polish really pretty and less intense. This color is super fun and playful which makes it sexy and perfect for summer. Even though this polish has a lot going on, something about it is SO flattering and wearable. It’s one of my favorites.

Violet flash, I see you

The formula on this polish is good, I’ve never had an issue with it. I used two coats and application was smooth and easy. It also wears decently, which for me is a rarity.

Where to Buy: Online Retailers / Amazon/ Sally’s Beauty / $ 5 – $ 7

Do you own Oh Cabana Boy? Did I just convince you that you need it? Or is it too much for your taste? I swear if you try it, you’ll like it.

I’m really glad today is over,

Essie: Bermuda Shorts…?

I’m pretty certain that I have mentioned how much I like Bermuda Shorts in passing within other entries at least a couple of times. I remember with my old camera it was impossible to capture the color, but with my new one I had no issues and am happy to finally be able to blog about this perfect summer color.

However, I have to start with a disclaimer. I guess I hadn’t noticed really that my bottle of Bermuda Shorts looked different from swatches or bottles I had seen in person. I remember my best friend telling me about Bermuda Shorts, seeing her bottle, then purchased mine online over a year ago and loved it since.

Recently my best friend said to me, “This looks so much different from mine!” I thought maybe it just looked different on me, but my polish color is much different from what comes up when searched.Which sucks. This is much more pink than purple. Boo :(

Perfect summer manicure

This Bermuda Shorts is a great mix of pink and purple. It’s very cool toned and crisp. Not to mention, pretty girly (especially for me). It’s a neon, but it’s definitely not TOO bright, which I really like. It looks great with fun, printed dresses in the summer. Like most neons, it looks great with a tan but something about this polish I think looks extra good.

Great formula

I’d say that this formula was great even for a creme, but since this polish is a neon (and dries matte) it’s excellent. There’s never an issue with streaking, it dries quickly, and is still smooth and easy to apply even though it’s neon. Two coats gets the job done perfectly every time. I wear this polish as a pedicure a ton in the summer months. I do need to reapply a top coat for shine every couple days, which is a pain. But it’s a go to for me, for sure!

Where to Buy: Online Retailers / $ 5-ish?

Even though I do love this color, I DO wish I had the original Bermuda Shorts and would have noticed by different in color sooner! I’m not really sure why there are multiple versions of this color floating around. Maybe I have a polish mislabeled and it’s something else completely?

Do you have an idea what this color might actually be? Do you own the real Bermuda Shorts? (Jealous!) Or have you ever bought a polish to later find out it’s not the original?
