Zoya: Avery

Please excuse my sub-par photos for this post. I knicked my polish hanging new sheers in my bedroom the other night, but still really wanted to blog and post for you guys. Bare with me.

When I saw swatches of the new Zoya Feel Winer collection the other morning, I ordered them all immediately. There was something about the creamy, dreamy, grey-ed out neutrals that felt winter-y in a non-gimicky kind of way. Not to mention, all the colors look gorgeous together as a collection.

Creamy, peachy nude creme

Avery was the polish I was most excited to try. The gorgeous, nude, beige-y peach (with a touch of pink even?) looks gorgeous. It looks literally like foundation in the bottle. As you can tell, it didn’t give me much of a “mannequin hands” look; I think it actually clashed somewhat with my skintone. To my disappointment, something about this polish was off on me. I thought it looked so dreamy and innocent in the bottle, but ended up looking somewhat frumpy and “blah” on me. I’m so bummed!

I didn’t have too much of an issue with application. It wasn’t as wonderfully smooth a formula as we all are accustomed to with Zoya, but it wasn’t awful. I would suggest applying two thick coats for evenness and to avoid streaks.

Where to Buy: Zoya.com / $ 8

I will say that I think this opaque creme finish is…a little heavy for me. I feel like it never looks right to me. I wish there was some micro-shimmer thrown in, or that these polishes were the jelly-creme hybrid that I personally prefer compared to traditional cremes. Something to lighten up the finish. What do you guys think? Are you excited about these colors? Or do they seem boring to you? Do you find them “winter-y” by any means? Or interesting regardless of the season?

China Glaze Tronica: Digital Dawn

Digital Dawn

My sister spotted these last week at Sally’s and was nice enough to pick me up a few. I will admit, I was pretty excited to get my hands on these polishes. I like the idea of the collection, and from what I had read and seen the colors seemed interesting for holos and I was psyched!

Though, my confusion and slight disappointed set in when I saw the bottles. The polish, as you may be able to tell, doesn’t look very holographic in the bottle. It looks like….a bad holo. And in doors, this is mostly the effect I am getting out of this polish, with some subtle holo going on in bright, indoor lighting. It’s more holographic on the nail than in the bottle.

Digital Dawn - outdoor / overcast lighting

Digital Dawn is a sort of peachy, rose pink, odd color. It has a touch of brown in it. I asked for this one because specifically because I don’t own many pinks or peaches (not really colors for me) but it seems sort of “ugly” so I wanted to give it a go. For some reason, I actually really like the base color of this polish. It wold look really nice on darker skin tones. I used two coats and got full coverage. The formula was like butter, smooth and not too thick.

It is unforunately pretty cloudy and gross outside today, so I wasn’t able to get any sunlight photos. I wanted to post this as soon as possible though. But as you can see, this holo doesn’t come to life very much outside either. I mean, you can see it (click to enlarge for a better view) but it’s basically not what we want from a holo. I might like these for the summer on my toes better or something.

Digital Dawn with flash...very pretty!

We all are aware that China Glaze KNOWS how to do holos (OMG / Kaleidoscope collection) so I’m not sure why they didn’t deliver what we like. A great, in your face, holographic nail collection. It’s like they skimped out. These don’t compare to OPI DS, or other great, true holographic polishes and it’s disappointing. I feel like they didn’t want to give us awesome holo polishes. The theme of this collection is perfect for it; they had the opportunity and they didn’t deliver.

I almost feel as though the subtle holographic effect of this collection..may have been on purpose. It’s such a bum out that maybe they intentionally didn’t go truly holographic. If CG had given us a great holographic collection, I think we would have been willing to spend a few extra dollars on a bottle since holos can be more expensive to produce.

If it’s sunny tomorrow I will  edit this post with some sunlight photos. But as for now, I am saying save your money for better quality holo polishes. I want my rainbow holo sparkle!

EDIT: Digital Dawn in sunlight photos. It looks nice and holographic. I love it in the sunlight, it’s so pretty.

Digital Dawn in sun...it looks good!

How are you guys feeling about these? Does Tronica seem to be disappointing you? Or do you still like the colors?

Benefit Ultra Shines Lip Gloss: Life On The A List

Pretty in Pink

It’s Sunday morning. Theoretically my favorite day of the week, but it never ends up actually being that cool for me. I don’t work Saturdays, Sundays or Mondays so Monday kind of turns into my Sunday so it’s like a fake Sunday and isn’t right. Anyway, I’m here with a pretty spring time colored lip gloss for you all!

I usually don’t wear stuff on my lips, minus Burt’s Bees. I know that might sound a little strange to some of our readers, but it’s slightly impractical for my life. I’m a nanny, so actually many types of make up may seem impractical for my activities throughout the day, but I still sweep on eyeshadow, blush, concealer and mascara for work. That has been my daily make up routine for the past couple months.

Don’t get me wrong though, I loved my MAC Lady Ga Ga lipstick…until I lost it. I know girls love glosses, our guest blogger Rachel is a huge Lip Glosshead, but sometimes with glosses I feel as though they don’t last very long and are gone within 30 minutes of application.

Life on the A List

I got this pretty Benefit gloss as a Christmas gift and really like it. I like that it is a light peachy / pink color and not too pigmented. As mentioned, my make up routine lately has been very light and fresh and somewhat “wintery” with lots of shimmery colors,  and I think this gloss will be a perfect finishing touch for my face.

Life on the A List

The formula and consistency of this gloss is great. It is not too sticky, which I know we all hate. It is actually not very sticky at all. I think that gloss would work well layered over lipstick too because it is not too pigmented. This gloss has a nice, fresh smell to it as well. It’s sort of peachy or apricoty. It’s not very strong so I don’t mind it, and it reminds me of springtime. Never a bad thing when it’s 20 degrees outside!

Light & Pretty

I like that this gloss isn’t too shimmery and how well it matches my lips already. It sort of looks more like a texture difference on my face rather than a color difference and I really like that. You can see the shine against my skin, not as much the color. I think this color is very versatile and can be worn all year-long.

This color isn’t very unique, but I like it as a pretty staple neutral for sure.

Chanel Le Vernis: 511 Pearl Drop & 515 Peche Nacree

Hi lacquer lovers!  I finally have photos of the other two polishes from Chanel’s Spring 2011 collection.  Let’s start off with Pearl Drop.

Chanel Le Vernis 511 Pearl Drop

Pearl Drop is a beautiful white color with gold reflections.  I usually won’t buy a white color like this but this color is just gorgeous.  I literally gasped when I first swatched it because it was just so pretty.  I like my polish to be pretty opaque so I layered this 3 times.

Chanel also suggests for Pearl Drop to be used on your toes with Black Pearl on your hands.  I cannot wait to try that combination because I can imagine this on my toes lounging around poolside.  So good!  So, all in all, this color is great.  1 coat is way sheer, 2 coats should be perfect and 3 coats makes this a strong color.

Chanel Le Vernis 515 Peche Nacree

Peche Nacree is a feminine peach color that looks pretty similar to skin tone but obviously more peach and with shimmer.  I adored this color in the bottle but wasn’t as impressed once it was on my nails.  It’s a subtle color and I prefer something with a bit more contrast to my skin tone.  Regardless, I do think this is a great color on and think it will look great on all skin tones.

Both colors are metallic so there are visible brush strokes but they’re really only visible in bright light.  Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colors are pricey but I find the formulas always to be consistent and strong. I haven’t seen the China Glaze Anchors Away collection in person yet, but from what I have seen I think that “White Cap” will be pretty close to Pearl Drop and “Sunset Sail” to be close to Peche Nacree.  Can’t wait to get my hands on that collection to compare it side by side!

Where To Buy: http://www.Chanel.com & Chanel Counters / $23

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
