Rescue Beauty Lounge: No More War

I didn’t mean to disappear for so many days. My internet died over the weekend and I had to new a new modem, set it up, and blah blah blah.

But I’m back with one of my favorites! I actually haven’t blogged about or worn in a very long time. It was nice to see this gorgeous, unique polish back in action.

Buttery smooth, yellow toned green

This is a polish that you either love or hate. I find a lot of people who love polish or collect nail polish and find it difficult to find interesting, unique colors for their collections tend to like this more. No More War is an olive green creme, with a bit of yellow and brown in it. It’s cool to me because you can tell it’s a murky green, but it’s almost neutral. It’s one of those edgy, borderline ugly colors. Which I like. And I think after applied, most people would actually like it. Whether you love it or hate it, it’s interesting for sure.

Smooth, easy application

I found this polish to have a great formula. And this is something that is pretty common among RBL polishes. It went on very smooth and easy. It was also very pigmented and I had minimal streaking. I only needed two coats for full coverage. My only application tip would be to pay a little extra attention while applying, because RBL polish (to me) is thinner and can pool by your cuticles.

Where To Buy (When In Stock): Rescuebeauty.com / $ 18

I need to really make an effort to buy more RBL polishes. The almost $ 20 price tag is a bit steep, but it’s a brand I really respect and want more of Ji’s interestingly beautiful colors!

So, do you love it or hate it? Do you own it? Does No More War terrify you with it’s yellow-y green hue? Is this polish more ugly or pretty / chic to you? I’d love to hear it!

P.S. Happy 300th post for Death by Polish! That is exciting and crazy! Thanks to everyone who continues to stop by, read, and comment in your busy days. It always makes me happy. :)

Zoya: Yara

I was really looking forward to wearing this polish over the weekend. I love greens and was ready for this polish to be a home run for me. I did end up liking this polish, but I didn’t love it as much as I was expecting too for an interesting green. Kind of a bummer!

Dusty, oilive green with scattered gold shimmer

Yara is a medium toned olive green base color, with scattered gold shimmer running throughout. It has a bit of murkiness to the base color, but for me, it almost takes away from the polish this time. Even with the shimmer, it seems a little dull and too dark. I also think that with my skin tone, I don’t get the contrast that would allow for this color to look brighter and prettier. Lighter, cooler toned girls might look best with this on their nails. It looks a bit muddy on me.

The formula and application of this polish was good. I used two coats and it went on smooth and even. Though, I will say the wear on this polish was wasn’t great. I did this manicure on Thursday night, and it’s looking rough. I’ll have to remove it tonight.

Where to Buy: Zoya.com / $ 8

I know people have been gushing about Yara, how do you feel about it? Are you getting a little sick of the “dusty” toned polishes? Do you love Yara?

Not looking forward to True Blood being over for the season tonight!

Zoya: Dree and Urban Outfitters: Afterhours

I hope all of our readers dealing with the hurricane are safe. That’s scary!

I recently got my order of the new fall 2011 Zoya collection, and Dree was the first one I wanted to try. I had also been toying with the idea of using this Urban Outfitters holo glitter and thought the balance of masculine army green and girly light pink holo glitter would be a fun contrast. I ended up wishing I had just done Dree, which isn’t surprising at all.

Creamy almost muted army green and pink glitter holo

Dree is a rather interesting color. It’s an army / olive green creme, but it has that hint of dustiness to it. And also has a good amount of grey in it so it’s mellow and a much calmer green. It’s absolutely ideal for fall, and for the not common green polish wear-er. It’s sophisticated and pretty. I love it. Afterhours is a chunky pink holographic glitter polish. I thought it was a bit more taupe. Nothing too special or too “me”.

Smooth Zoya application

Like every other Zoya creme I own, this went on like a dream. Buttery smooth with zero issues. I only needed two coats for full opacity. And believe it or not, I have also gotten pretty great wear on this manicure. It’s day four and I have minimal chipping. That’s always a huge, huge plus for me.

Where to Buy: (Dree) Zoya.com / $ 8

Where to Buy Afterhours: Urban Outfitters / UrbanOutfitters.com / $ 4

I’m really excited to wear the rest of the Fall 2011 Zoya’s I ordered. Did you get Dree? What polishes from the collection did you get? Or which ones caught your eye?

Have a nice True Blood Sunday.

Chanel: Peridot

There is really is something special about these Chanel fall polishes, and I can’t say no to them. I have tried to talk myself out of buying them a number of times. I finally purchased Peridot the other day and don’t regret it. Although, I will from the jump let you guys know that Chanel polishes don’t wear well on me, but I’m an idiot and still buy them.

But just LOOK at how pretty this is in the bottle?? Olive green, gold, blue?? I couldn’t resist.

Duochrome of olive green, gold, and blue

This polish color / duochrome is completely different to me. I haven’t really seen anything like it and I don’t have anything like it in my collection. It looks absolutely beautiful in the bottle and it all translates onto the nail. And the finish is a metallic shimmer that looks expensive and special. The gold is the most predominate on the nail but you get a good amount of the olive-y green. And the blue is by no means just a flash; it shifts and is visible often. It’s awesome, I really loved admiring this manicure.

Smooth, opaque application

I’m happy to say that I had no complaints with application or formula. The formula was thinner and easy to apply and spread on the nail. It was opaque with good pigmentation that only took two coats. The drying time was also good.

But as I mentioned, Chanel polishes don’t wear well on me. In all honesty, I don’t get good wear out of most of my polishes. 90% of the time I get chips within the first 24 hours. I do a lot with my hands at work and just don’t really see a way around it with a regular manicure. I am looking at trying new top coats but who knows if that will solve my issues. I doubt it, so I just deal with it.

Where to Buy: Chanel.com / Chanel Counters / $25

We all know Chanel polishes are pricey, but this color is worth it to me. It’s beautiful and really eye-catching. I also plan on picking up Graphite when I have the chance.  I’ve been dreaming about both since photos started popping up online.

So give it to me; are you a Chanel buyer or not? I see both sides of it but I definitely love their polishes and colors. Are you lemming Peridot or Graphite? Or waiting for the Barry M dupe that will show up soon?

Nars: Nouveau Monde Eyeshadow Duo

Nouveau Monde!

This was definitely my most desired item from the Nars Spring 2011 Collection, the eyeshadow duo in Nouveau Monde, featuring a shimmery lilac on one side and dark olive brown on the other. I got this last month as a birthday gift to myself and just now got around to wearing it (although of course, I took pictures right away) I knew I was going to love this though in part because of the colors and because my first Nars eyeshadow experience with Etrusque went so well.

swatching in natural light

I had been wanting an olive shadow lately and of course, always want purple so this was right up my alley. I read great reviews about this duo and needless to say, was not disappointed. The shadows are very pigmented and the colors show nicely and go well together, but not necessarily in a typical way. I think these colors are so nice for spring and I look forward to getting a lot of wear out of them. I do tend to wear a lot of green and purple, but I’m going to try to go with this in a non-matchy way as much as I can. I also like that you can use either color as the primary, today when I wore it, it was mostly the olive shadow.

OPI: At Your Quebec & Call

At Your Quebec & Call

Happy Friday! It’s been really great outside the past few days here in Chicago. Usually at this time in February we are preparing for one last snow storm and it’s still cold. However, magically it’s spring.

I love the name of this polish. And I have really wanted many of the Canadian collection polishes for awhile. But they aren’t the easiest to find. I recently purchased this polish and have been waiting to use it.

Black label OPI

I received this beauty in the mail and the first thing I noticed was its black label. The next thing I noticed was its horrid smell. OOF. It stinks to high heaven. I swear even when the lid is on.  But the formula wasn’t bad. I wanted to get through the manicure in two coats because of the smell, but it needed three to really get that a nice pigmented, saturated metallic finish. But it dried quickly so it wasn’t too bad.

AYQ&C - Bronzed Olive Green

This color is very pretty. I actually thought it was going to be a touch lighter, or maybe a little more green. But I am by no means disappointed. I love green polish, and recently not only in polish but make up have been really into olive green. This polish has a good amount of brown / brown shimmer. Totally greek goddess.

Green shimmer, brown shimmer

The base color of this polish is an olive metallic green, however there’s lost of micro shimmer packed in as well. There’s brown and bright green that come out a lot in the sun that sort of make this polish shine. But indoors and in regular lighting is just mostly reads as a green metallic.

At Your Quebec & Call / CG Peace On Earth

This color is pretty similar to China Glaze’s Peace on Earth from 2010′s Holiday Collection. It also has that same nice finish. But like I said, AYQ&C has some more brown to it and is a little darker. POE is brighter.

This polish is really pretty. And it seems both springish and fallish to me. The green is bright enough to make it perfect for this time of year, and the balance of brown makes it great for fall.

Where to Buy: Online Retailers / $8.50ish

Clinique Quick Eyes Cream Shadow: Sunlit Palm

Sunlit Palm

I’ve eyeballed this shadow before at my local Clinique counter and always really wanted it, but I never pulled the trigger on the purchase until the other day. And now, I can not get enough of it. This shadow is killing it!

People always talk about cream shadows in the relation to creasing. Which I understand, but I feel as though with the right eye primer, cream or not, that problem should be minimal with all shadows. I have oiler skin, so I feel as though my creasing can be more of an issue because of it and my current eye primer (Lorac Behind the Scenes) is not very good. So I really need to purchase a better one so all of my shadows and I can be much happier. But even with my skin and my not so great primer, the creasing on this beauty isn’t so bad!

Rescue Beauty Lounge: No More War

No More War

Hey everyone! Hope you had a good Thanksgiving holiday. I was at home in Chicago visiting with my family + Liz, which was wonderful… plus I got my RBL polishes! Sorry that the pictures aren’t superb, the sunshine has been very minimal recently and I had to snap these pics before I even had my coffee!

One of the 2 RBL polishes I got is No More War. I’ll admit, I was hesitant to pull the trigger on getting this, it looked so different to me online compared to when I got it in person.

It’s a shiney creme army green/olive green and it’s really gorgeous! It’s instantly become a favorite of mine. I really love how different the color is and that it can be a neutral. In some lights it looks super shiney green and in others in can be kind of a more muted brown hue.

The more muted, "dingy" side of this polish

Application was kind of streaky in the first coat, but evened out nicely in the second and that was as many coats as I did. I wish this was lasting longer honestly, I’ve already gotten some chipping on my right hand.

This brings me to the unfortunate question, would I have gotten this for full price… the answer? probably not. For almost $20 I’d expect at least 2 days of solid wear in addition to great colors and a smooth application. I don’t know if I’ll buy RBLs at full price, but I don’t mind paying the more reasonable half off price. I am still looking forward to using the other nail polish I got, which is Dead Calm.

If me, Liz, or anyone else ever finds a dup of this color, we’ll be sure to let you know about it. However, I certainly can’t recall seeing a color like this. If you really love No More War I’d keep a watch for any kind of sale with RBL… or maybe ask Santa :)

24 days ’til Christmas,

-Lauren

EDIT: Hey, all. I just wanted to let everyone know my experience with this polish as well. Lauren and I have been pretty hit or miss with RBLs I guess? Which, I don’t know, sort of seems to be a theme from what I have noticed from other consumers. However, I also recently wore this polish and had no problems with it. I absolutely LOVED it. I think it may be one of my top 2 or 3 favorite polishes. I did not have chipping problems and I think I wore it for 3 three days with minimal to no tipwear. I would completely buy this polish for $18 for the unusual, awesome color on its own!

China Glaze: Peace On Earth

Peace On Earth

Out of all of the China Glaze Holiday 2011 collection that I own, this is color is my favorite. Peace on Earth is a golden, olive green. I’m going to start off by saying that the formula on this polish wasn’t the best. It seemed to be thicker than the normal China Glaze formula. It also had a certain sticky, goopy-ness to it that no one likes. I used two coats. And it dried pretty quickly. I would suggest a thinner first coat followed by a thicker second coat for full coverage.

In Shade

This polish has a very nice metallic, shimmer finish on it. However, I could see someone not liking this polish because of the finish. I could see one saying it is “too frosty” or “pearly” looking for their taste causing it to read dated. Though, the finish to me allows it to be very holiday. Also, the golden olive / military green is a very cool and edgy color to me, so nothing about this polish is anything but awesome for me.

In Shade

I also think this color would look great on all skin tones. Specially someone with beautiful porcelain skin or someone with darker skin tones. Since winter has arrived here in Chicago, my skin is back to it’s more yellow natural, so I think this polish looks more yellow on me because of it.

This polish overall is awesome. I love the edgy-ness to it. I love how the color is young and hip, but could also be styled in a more holiday feel. I think it’s very versatile and not only wearable during the holiday season!
