OPI: Don’t Pretzel My Buttons

This may sound a little crazy coming from me, but I couldn’t wait to wear this polish. And even crazier, I love it. Of all the Germany collection polishes that I’ve tried, this is my favorite thus far.

Warm, nude creme

Though this polish seems a little bland, something about it is extremely flattering and pretty. It’s a warm, beige, nude-y creme. Although it seems very warm and pale, this polish was a pretty awesome looking mannequin hand manicure on me. This polish hit all the right notes for me and I can’t wait to wear it again.

Easy application, even for a creme

Cremes can be fussy, but I had no issues with Don’t Pretzel My Button’s formula. It went on smooth and very even for a creme. I used three coats to be safe, and got full coverage. As far as application tips, I’d just let each coat dry fully since cremes can drag easily.

China Glaze: Fast Track

I was very happy to receive a few Hunger Games polishes as gifts last weekend. I haven’t had much time to make online polish orders or run out to grab new polishes, which has sucked. But I told myself that’s got to change. So, I’m excited to have new polishes to chit chat with you guys about.

Sandy, neutral nude packed with gold shimmer

Fast Track is gorgeous. I think all of us can appreciate a good neutral polish. I feel as though I don’t wear them enough, but when I do, I truly enjoy it. And I have loved wearing this polish. It’s so flattering on my skin tone. It has a bit of yellow in the sandy, beige base, and is packed with gold micro-shimmer. I think this would also look great on toes for summer. The amount of shimmer makes it more interesting than the average neutral.

Easy, pigmented application

I usually never have an issue with China Glaze’s formula. Fast Track went on easy and smooth, and built up for full coverage in two coats. It dried quickly as well. I have zero issues with this polish and completely love it.

Zoya: Opal (over Zoya: Avery)

I really like how this manicure turned out. I couldn’t decide whether to layer Opal over another polish, and if so, what color. So, the perfect solution seemed to be to layer it over a neutral. Avery is very fleshy on me; almost my skintone. And almost mannequin hands. It was the perfect base to let Opal shine.

Nude base with green and purple flakies. Gorgeous!

Contrary to what the bottle may convey, Opal’s base is actually pretty clear. There isn’t much green so it’s actually really great for layering. It would work over almost any base color. What I really love about Opal is that the flakies are green and also flash purple at extreme angles. It’s so fun to admire and to shift and watch them change like a chameleon. And in combination with Avery they flash and catch the light often, but it’s a soft flash. It’s fun but yet still pretty and subdue. I love it.

Easy application

For this manicure, I used one coat of Avery as a base followed by two coats of Opal. I like how evenly these Zoya Fleck Effect’s disperse  The flakies don’t clump up at the top or base of the nail. And also there’s a ton of them per swipe / layer. They apply really well, look great, and dry quickly. I really have no complaints! I love this manicure, and can’t wait to find other combinations that work just as well with Opal.

Zoya: Avery

Please excuse my sub-par photos for this post. I knicked my polish hanging new sheers in my bedroom the other night, but still really wanted to blog and post for you guys. Bare with me.

When I saw swatches of the new Zoya Feel Winer collection the other morning, I ordered them all immediately. There was something about the creamy, dreamy, grey-ed out neutrals that felt winter-y in a non-gimicky kind of way. Not to mention, all the colors look gorgeous together as a collection.

Creamy, peachy nude creme

Avery was the polish I was most excited to try. The gorgeous, nude, beige-y peach (with a touch of pink even?) looks gorgeous. It looks literally like foundation in the bottle. As you can tell, it didn’t give me much of a “mannequin hands” look; I think it actually clashed somewhat with my skintone. To my disappointment, something about this polish was off on me. I thought it looked so dreamy and innocent in the bottle, but ended up looking somewhat frumpy and “blah” on me. I’m so bummed!

I didn’t have too much of an issue with application. It wasn’t as wonderfully smooth a formula as we all are accustomed to with Zoya, but it wasn’t awful. I would suggest applying two thick coats for evenness and to avoid streaks.

I will say that I think this opaque creme finish is…a little heavy for me. I feel like it never looks right to me. I wish there was some micro-shimmer thrown in, or that these polishes were the jelly-creme hybrid that I personally prefer compared to traditional cremes. Something to lighten up the finish. What do you guys think? Are you excited about these colors? Or do they seem boring to you? Do you find them “winter-y” by any means? Or interesting regardless of the season?

Wet N Wild: Private Viewing and OPI: Guy Meets Gal-veston

I haven’t really been buying a lot of new polishes lately. I bought a new car recently (very exciting!) and have had some other semi-big expenses so I’ve been trying to get creative with polishes I have that I want to revisit, but still want to be able to blog. I have a couple of cool ideas I’m going to try out and will show you guys whether they end up cool or fail. :)

Accent nail manicure

I’ve been craving a lot of pinks, oranges, corals, etc with the temperature being basically 300 degrees non-stop here recently. I wanted to wear Guy Meets Gal-veston, so I decided to wear it as an accent color on my ring finger and thumb paired with the pretty, nude-y Private Viewing. This color combo is really lovely. I think the colors work really well together and the nude allows for some sophistication with the poppy, fun coral-y /orange/pink.

I think this is one of the first times I’ve done an accent manicure without a foil or glitter as the accent color / nails. I actually really like it. It’s still fun and unexpected, but not too loud or juvenile. Since these polishes are (almost) the same texture, it softens the look. Especially with most of the nails being nude or flesh toned.

Jason Wu for CND: Brigitte

This is the last polish I had yet to wear from Jason Wu’s CND collection. And, well, since I chose it last it may be obvious to say that it was my least favorite. This polish didn’t look great on me. To be honest, I’m not sure it would look great on anyone. It’s a little drab.

Almost dusty pink nude

Jason Wu described Brigitte as ” a healthy, natural nude in a fresh, flushed-cheek tone.” Which, I guess is pretty true. Though my cheeks don’t ever look this color. For me, there is something that is off about the hue of this color. It looks almost muddy and dull in a not cool way. Also on my skintone, I lost a lot of the pink in the color so it ended up looking like a bizarre fleshy color. The frumptastic factor on this color was pretty high.

Perfect application

Even if I didn’t love the color of Brigitte, I did love the application. It went on smooth, creamy, and pigmented. I used two coats with no problems. As all of this collection, the formula and application was perfect.

What do you guys think of these dusty pinky flesh colors? A little old lady? I think that you have to find the right one for your skin, but I’d rather just opt for a beige-y nude instead. Those are much prettier and sexier to me.

Wet N Wild Megalast: Private Viewing

I’ve been hitting Walgreens hard the past couple of days. I spent a decent amount of time perusing the make up section. I snagged 6 new bottles of Wet N Wild, and I am pretty excited about all of them. The Wet N Wild Shines are all currently on sale at Walgreens for 69 cents, go get some!

These Wet N Wild Megalasts weren’t available at both of the Walgreens I have been to in the past couple days. Just one. On the display, they say they are meant to stay chipfree for up to 6 days. We’ll see about that.

Nude, beige. Almost mannequin hands

Private Viewing (cute name) is a nudey, beige color. This is actually my first nude color. Crazy! On the first coat is it very much like putting nothing on your nails, but by the second coat it becomes quiet opaque and pretty. It has a nice, light tan color with a touch of pink that seems really nice for summer to me. It almost matches my skin tone. I’m really liking this color way more than I thought I would. It looks great and a little bit sexy.

Almost squishy finish

The formula on this was awesome. I could  have gotten away with two coats, but did three as a precaution. I was impressed with the drying time on this, it was fast. The finish is light, not a heavy creme. It’s almost half jelly. It also has really soft, pretty hidden shimmer! Completely not detectable in the bottle or indoors.

The brushes for this line are a little short, but that’s better than too long for me. The bottles are sort of mini since they only contain .3 FL OZ

This Megalast line has a lot of really cool, neutral colors in it. They were all cremes, I think. All of the colors looked pretty. I picked up one more and can’t wait to try it. I also like how these bottles look, a little more sophisticated, and I really am enjoying the color and formula. It seems to be the older, professional sister of Wet N Wild Shines. I’m impressed. Not chips yet!

Have you tired any of these Wet n Wild Megalasts? I hadn’t heard much about them. But totally a go and a steal at $1.99!

Revlon: Colorburst Lip Glosses

Revlon Colorburst Lip Glosses

Have you guys seen these being raved about online? I have seen a few reviews about then, and decided that I should give them a go.

Revlon has recently revamped their make up and make up packaging and I can only say that it was a great idea. These glosses look so high-end. Their length, square body, and the argyle tops look great! I picked up three shades of the Colorburst Lip Glosses: Hot Pink, Crystal Lilac, and Strawberry.

OPI: Hollywood Blonde

Hollywood Blonde!

Happy New Year, polish junkies! We hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and that your 2011 is off to a great start. Today I have Hollywood Blonde for you! It’s from OPI’s Holiday collection 2007 and Liz got this for me for Christmas (it was a much coveted item). As soon as I laid eyes on this polish I wanted it, I think it is relatively HTF and that Liz had to order it.

Better shot of the shimmer and hues

This is a pinkish nude with gold shimmer. It’s very sheer, I used 3 coats here and it was still difficult for me to capture the actual color and shimmer effect on camera. Let’s just say that with 3 coats this was quite shimmery.

This color is so pretty and I absolutely adore it. I feel like it can work for just about any season and occasion, whether you want sparkle for the weekend or something softer for a wedding/formal environment and for work, as well. I’ll admit, I was rather depressed when this started to chip and I had to take it off. Although even this at it’s most worn out state, this color doesn’t make you want to take it off immediately because it’s so sheer and nude so the imperfections in your mani won’t be obvious.

I tried to get another aspect of the polish in this shot, not sure if it worked, but I took a lot of pictures. I’m so pleased with this polish and if you are someone who’s been wanting it like I have I can definitely tell you that it’s worth it to order Hollywood Blonde!

OPI: Tickle My France-y

So shiney!

It’s been awhile since I used this one. I don’t know what I was thinking! I should use this all the time. For me, it’s one of the best nudes, I think. I really like the sheer look with this one, so it’s only 2 coats. The coverage is pretty good though, there’s barely any VNL. This is from the OPI France collection, which I want to say is from 2008, but you can still find a lot of polishes from this collection at stores.

Tickle My France-y

I’ve read in other blogs that this color doesn’t always show well on all skin types. I’m pretty fair, but I think this polish is worth taking a shot on because when it works it really works. It’s very shiney, subtle, and works for all seasons. This color was perfect for me this weekend because I needed a palette cleanser. I had been wearing very dark and sparkly colors lately. I also had to do something light after all the work it took to get OPI DS Fantasy off of my nails! I love that polish, but it was definitely a headache to remove. Blue everywhere!
