Deborah Lippmann: Across The Universe

Hopefully everyone had a nice weekend. It’s currently 80 degrees outside right now, a nice surprise to my birthday weekend, it’s never this warm this time of year. All the spring flowers have started to bloom, yay!

My sister gave me this lovely polish this weekend. I recently posted about the only other Deborah Lippmann polish that I have, Call Me Irresponsible, and even though I didn’t have a positive opinion about that polish, I was so excited to receive this beauty! Across The Universe is like a dream to any polish lover.

Blue jelly with green and blue hexagon glitter

I’m not satisfied with these photos, it’s so much better in real life! I know many polish lovers have raved the beauty and awesomeness of this polish since it was released for the Fall 2010 duo. But it seriously deserves it. I mean, just look at it! A navy blue jelly base with green and light blue hexagon glitter AND blue micro glitter?? I love how dark the base color is, it allows the glitter to just come through and stand out.

To die for!

It’s almost obvious when I say that I don’t have anything like this polish. It’s too unique and gorgeous. Though, I won’t be fully blinded by its beauty. It is slightly difficult to get the hexagon glitter to disperse evenly. And in the sunlight, this jelly base isn’t fully opaque. Probably my fault with the application. (I’m not feeling too well, I think I have a stomach bug!) I used three coats, and each coat dried quicker than expected! And not very gritty at all to the touch.

Regardless I will say that this polish is a hands down must have for anyone who collects polish. It’s so beautiful, like a work of art. I can’t stop staring at the bottle!

Where to Buy: Lippmancollection.com / Nordstrom’s / Neiman Marcus / $ 16

For my birthday, my mom made me a homemade pound cake with maple whipped cream per my request. SO GOOD :)

Go Hawks!,

OPI Katy Perry: Last Friday Night

Last Friday Night

Let’s start off by stating that this glitter is SHEER. I feel as though many polish heads are disappointed in this blue glitter because of this factor. Which, I mean, would make sense if you didn’t use your eyeballs to look at the polish in or on the brush before purchasing it. Or were wrongly deceived by an online purchasing site, or just like your glitters to sparkle loud and bright, etc.

Glowy Last Friday Night

I bought this guy knowing it was going to be sheer and light from promo photos, swatches, and seeing it in person. The sheerness is intentional. I get you, Last Friday Night! I am NOT disappointed in you! I think you’re cool! I am your friend!

The first thing that needs to be said about this polish (aside from its sheerness) is its awesome some what iridescent glow. It’s kind of like having blue, glowy, sparkly, alien fingers. But in a totally NOT weird way. (Also, don’t forget I’m way into The X Files currently and might just want blue alien nails. Don’t hold it against me.)

Last Friday Night glowstick fingers

To be fair, the first coat of this polish is SO sheer. It’s basically a clear coat with glitter. But when you begin to build the color and glitter, you get this jelly, light blue base that sort of looks like it should glow in the dark (but doesn’t of course). I ended up doing four coats of LFN. Which is a lot, I understand. But each layer dried fast, and I liked seeing the color build and am completely satisfied with the finish.

Close Up. Click to Englarge! (Slightly more blue in real life)

The base of this glitter is a very light, pale blue. The glitter pieces within are hexagonal and iridescent. Seeming to also be slightly blue and pink (to me). There is also blue micro glitter packed very well in there. All of the glitter working together creates this sort of abstract mother of pearl affect in the sunlight. I think it’s really cool, different, and pretty. I think this would look really good on darker skin tones because it would appear more blue. And on lighter skin tones this would look extra cool and alien like!

This polish really shifts in low lighting. It looks deeper, and so many different colors come out of it. Blues, greens, and purples. It reflects the light so cool. It’s completely awesome and so pretty.

If you like the idea of this polish but not the effect on its own, you could always use a couple of layers on top of a lighter base. Maybe a light blue or silver. Or a dark blue, dark purple, or blurple. I’d like to try that out soon.

I also think this glitter does work well under the shatter. Since it has this cool glowy thing going on, I like the look of that peering out from under the solid black.

I feel like you’re either going to love this polish or hate it. I love. It might be one of my top 5 favorite polishes.

Where to Buy: Ulta, JCPenny, Trade Secret, Online Retailers / $8.50

Loving Last Friday Night,

Holiday Manicure with China Glaze and Milani

Look at how festive in the snow!

I have been feeling really Holidayish lately. I have decorated the whole house inside and out for Christmas. And it snowed here all day yesterday and I liked it. Which is slightly insane because I pretty much hate snow and winter normally. But I guess I’m sort of turning over a new leaf. We’ll see.

Tease-y Does It was looking awful by yesterday, so I had to change my polish. I have been feeling very festive and have been meaning to wear China Glaze Jolly Holly because it looks awesome. But I guess I didn’t want to wear it and then get sick of it and not want to wear it closer to the holidays. I put on Jolly Holly and loved it, but apparently since I have been feeling so good and festive I needed something else. My sister recently picked me up some of these new Milanis while at CVS. I have never used Milani but slapped on Gems as accent nails on my ring finger and thumb and it’s awesome.

Cloudy Skies

Isn’t this fun? It’s actually a little flashy for me to be honest. With this hexagon and multicolored chunky glitter in Gems. And a little early because it is very Christmasy to me. When I first put this on I thought, “This might be a little much, Liz.” But I have completely been loving it. Gems has red, gold, light blue, silver, and green glitter. It’s a clear base and there’s also small glitter pieces in this polish. I used two coats on each other accent nail. I kind of wish I did a more gradual effect with less on the bottom of the nail and more at the top. But next time I’ll keep that in mind.

Cloudy

Jolly Holly’s application was pretty good. I have been pretty bad at a neat polish application lately and I’m not sure why. Before clean up, my nails are looking rough! JH’s formula was great. It was slightly on the thinner side, but applied so pigmented and saturated. This polish could probably be a one coater. It’s so deep and shimmery. The finish is metallic but very shiny and glossy. It has gold microshimmer in it that you can see more in the bottle than on the nail. But it’s a very pretty color.

The greens in this CG Holiday collection were amazing. I still want Snowy so bad! I need to get my paws on it.

Ready for the Blackhawks game to start,

Liz

EDIT 12/7/10: That Milani Gems was AWFUL to remove. It stuck to the felt I use to remove horribly and I literally had to scrub it off. However, I was not using pure acetone, just regular remover.
