Rescue Beauty Lounge: No More War

I didn’t mean to disappear for so many days. My internet died over the weekend and I had to new a new modem, set it up, and blah blah blah.

But I’m back with one of my favorites! I actually haven’t blogged about or worn in a very long time. It was nice to see this gorgeous, unique polish back in action.

Buttery smooth, yellow toned green

This is a polish that you either love or hate. I find a lot of people who love polish or collect nail polish and find it difficult to find interesting, unique colors for their collections tend to like this more. No More War is an olive green creme, with a bit of yellow and brown in it. It’s cool to me because you can tell it’s a murky green, but it’s almost neutral. It’s one of those edgy, borderline ugly colors. Which I like. And I think after applied, most people would actually like it. Whether you love it or hate it, it’s interesting for sure.

Smooth, easy application

I found this polish to have a great formula. And this is something that is pretty common among RBL polishes. It went on very smooth and easy. It was also very pigmented and I had minimal streaking. I only needed two coats for full coverage. My only application tip would be to pay a little extra attention while applying, because RBL polish (to me) is thinner and can pool by your cuticles.

Where To Buy (When In Stock): Rescuebeauty.com / $ 18

I need to really make an effort to buy more RBL polishes. The almost $ 20 price tag is a bit steep, but it’s a brand I really respect and want more of Ji’s interestingly beautiful colors!

So, do you love it or hate it? Do you own it? Does No More War terrify you with it’s yellow-y green hue? Is this polish more ugly or pretty / chic to you? I’d love to hear it!

P.S. Happy 300th post for Death by Polish! That is exciting and crazy! Thanks to everyone who continues to stop by, read, and comment in your busy days. It always makes me happy. :)

Sonia Kashuk: Tauped

TGIF, am I right?! Sorry I was gone all week. I was wearing a really light, sheer polish that lasted me 5 days. Another Sonia Kashuk for fall, Sugar Rush. I loved it. A total “your nails but better” polish. Pick it up!

I know I have mentioned before how much I really like Sonia Kashuk’s Target line, and I’m going to say it again. It’s great. All of her cosmetic products, including polish, deliver great quality for a minimal price. I use her polish (of course), tinted moisturizer, and make up brushes. Love.

A somewhat, lighter taupe

A taupe is just a taupe, right? Almost. What I actually really like about Tauped is that it is a bit lighter, and softer than the other taupes that I own. A lot of them are richer and deeper, but this one is a bit grey-ed out which makes it a little milkier. I like the softness of it a lot. And the hint of purple.

Great, almost fully jell application and finish

The formula on this polish was great. It went on smooth and was easily spreadable. The formula was somewhat of a half cream half jelly hybrid, but I would say it was more jelly. It wasn’t as opaque on the first coat as a creme would be. I only needed two coats, and this had excellent drying time. As for application tips, since it’s jelly-ish, I would work on getting an even, opaque first coat to avoid bald spots and a third coat!

Where to Buy: Target / $ 4

Do you love taupes? They are a great sophisticated color. Did you pick up any of these Sonia Kashuk’s for fall? Any of her polish in the past?

Have a nice weekend. I love October.

P.S. Go Blackhawks!

OPI: Chocolate Moose

I have briefly mentioned how I am on an ongoing mission to collection all of the Canadian collection from OPI. To be honest, I haven’t been searching lately. I’ve had a hard enough time putting orders in for new collections online, let alone searching in real life. Luckily, my best friend picked this up for me when she was out and about , so I can cross this one off the list.

Creamy, milk chocolate-y color

Chocolate Mose (cute name) is a medium toned brown creme. I get that that description doesn’t make it sound all that appealing or interesting, but I actually really like it. It’s the color of milk chocolate in general, but is a bit lighter in tone. It’s creamy and neutral. It has a sophisticated air to it like almost all semi-odd colored cremes do. It complimented my tan well, but think it would look good on all warm skin tones.

Smooth formula and pretty good wear

The application of this polish was good. I had no issues. It went on smooth and evenly. I needed two coats for full coverage, and it dried quickly. I also need to mention that his polish wore better for me than most of my polishes do. I got almost two solid days with no chips, which almost never happens for me. That is a big plus for me.

Where to Buy: Online Retailers / Target / Professional Salons / Dillard’s / JCPenny / Trade Secret (Think it’s part of the classics) / $ 8

Are you into browns on your nails? Do you own a brown creme? A shimmer? I know darker ones may be more appealing, but this one is a keeper too and something different.

Jason Wu for CND: Sophia

It may come to no surprise to regular readers that I also love this Jason Wu for CND polish. As I have mentioned, the formula on every polish in this collection is, basically wonderful. The colors are just standard neutrals, but for some reason, I’ve really taken to them. They are so sleek and clean.

Sophia - Medium chocolate-y creme

Jason Wu describes Sophia as “perfectly warm, smooth, milk chocolate nail.” This polish does remind me of milk chocolate, however, the color is more interesting than that. It has this grey tone to it that makes it look really earthy and reminiscent of a beautiful, natural stone. It’s somewhat like a twist on taupe. Very professional, sexy, and elegant. I don’t own another polish like this one. I loved this manicure.

Dreamy smooth application and finish

Like all of this collection, the formula and application was one of the best I’ve ever used. It went on completely effortlessly with almost fully opacity in one coat. The formula was so smooth and velvety. I used two coats to finish the manicure. I also noticed that this manicure wore pretty well considering what I put my polish (and hands) through daily.

Where to buy: CND.com / Transdesign.com / $47 on CND or $23 on Transdesign

Come on, I know I can’t be the only one loving these polishes. Anyone else give these a try? Or have you been thinking about picking them up?

China Glaze Tronica: Mega Bite

Mega Bite

I did a quick swatch of Mega Bite for you guys today. However, it’s super grey and gross outside so my photos aren’t the best, but I wanted to get these up here for you guys to see and at least get an idea of the colors. So, this post isn’t going to the be the best, I apologize!

I thought I was going to like this color more than I did. I guess it’s technically a gold. But there’s a tinge of green and brown in the polish that just quite doesn’t work. It’s not “off” enough to be “on”…you get what I’m saying? Haha.

Mega Bite in overcast lighting

The formula on this polish was really good. It kind of looks like it’s going to be too thick, but it’s actually very easily applied on the nail. And the drying time is really good. I did two coats for this swatch.

In the crappy, grey sunlight that is Chicago currently, I unfortunately got little to no holographic effect from this polish. What I got was mostly a foily finish. Or a gold polish with silver micro shimmer. Like I said, I thought I was going to like this polish more than I did. At first I thought, “Ohh, a nice weird green..ish color,” but this just is not working for me. It’s ugly and bad, in a not cool way. I had planned on wearing it as a full manicure but did one hand and stopped. The base color sort of seems like it looks like GR8, but I don’t own that polish and can’t speak as to if it actually does. Just thought it might a little!

Mega Bite with flash...where's the holo?!

Even when I took photos of this polish with the flash, there was barely any holo to be seen. It sort of just looks like a glitter. Even inside I had this same sort of finish with this polish. But, there was no sunlight today so I get that I am selling this polish short. Sorry, Mega Bite!

It could just me I don’t really like this color on me and my skin. It could look better on darker skintones, but I know we are all thinking it sort of looks like barf. Ew, gross! But it does! I’m not liking this one, and most of the other Tronica’s I’m still giving a chance cos I want to love them! I think Laser Lime from this collection would be much better.

Where to Buy: Sally’s / $ 6

What are you thinking? Definitely a pass on this Tronica? Or is it ugly and weird in a good way for you?

OPI: My Private Jet

My Private Jet

Well, our driveway is almost clear of our 16 inches of snow. We have been shoveling most of the morning, and my practically frost bitten fingers are glad we’re almost done!

Ah, a most coveted nail polish to all of us nail polish fanatics. My Private Jet. Each time I got on an online polish ordering binge, I mean to put it on my list but I always forget. I’d like to have any of the multiple versions, as opposed to none.

Well, I was recently out shopping and stumbled upon a bottle of MPJ. I was pleased to find it and not have to order it online. Though, I noticed right away it wasn’t like the swatches of the glorious holographic smokey brown / grey / black MPJ that’s so special. I’m not as lucky as those with the holo MPJ, but at least I’ve got one, right? Rightttt.

Non Holographic My Private Jet

First of all, whatever version of MPJ that I have, the formula was…interesting. It was a little runny and hard to manage. But still wasn’t that bad. I ended up trying to control a more heavy / thicker first coat. By the second coat it looked really great. Nice and opaque. And a pretty finish regardless.

As you can tell, my version looks brown with white speckles and silver micro shimmer and some holographic shimmer in the sun. It looks very pretty in the sun. You get a less pack in holographic effect that the HTF version has. This MPJ has a granite look to it not in direct sunlight. It looks like a stone almost. The smokey brown base color is pretty, and with all the shimmer in there this polish is still very stunning and not like anything I own.

My (Non holo) Private Jet

It’s still an edgy, special, and different polish. I hope to get my paws on the HTF true holo version of this polish. It’s something I will keep working on. I, and you too, would obviously love it in my collection!

Are you lucky enough to have the holo version of MPJ? If you do, where’d you get it? I’m jealoussss!

Where to Buy: Online Retailers

Essie: Little Brown Dress

Little Brown Dress in its shinier state

Today I have Essie’s Little Brown Dress. This was part of the Fall ’10 collection. I had been wanting this chocolate brown polish since it came out, but it took me awhile to finally break down and buy it. I knew this shade would be flattering on me because it’s not too tan or taupe. It is very dark and almost black, it’s kind of like wearing black all of the time and sometimes you just need a change… it’s still dark, but a little bit calmer and still flattering and edgy.

I did two, somewhat thicker coats, which may be why it looks exceptionally dark on me. It went on fairly well although I could’ve put a little more effort into thinning out the coats. It is very, very shiney which is nice and is pretty much exactly what I want out of a brown polish. At times I wish it wasn’t so “almost black”, but I think I may be able to fix that by painting thin coats. I sat at work today deciding whether it looked more black or brown, I can see it either way and like it either way.

It’s wearing pretty well for me, so far no chips so that’s good. I’m liking wearing something dark that isn’t purple or black because I feel like that’s usually what I end up with. I definitely don’t have a polish like this already in my collection, so if you’ve been pining for a dark brown or just a different kind of dark nail polish this is probably the one for you.

Glad Monday is over,

-Lauren

OPI: Meet Me On The Star Ferry

I hope everyone is having a fun holiday weekend involving lots of eating and maybe a little shopping! Lauren is back home in Chicago with me for the holiday and we know we have been slacking on posting! But I am back today to show you a matching polish we painted the other night from the Hong Kong Collection that I hadn’t heard much about, actually.

In Sun

Meet Me On The Star Ferry is a purple metallic base color with a hint of brown and sort of shy micro multicolored glitter. I like that the basecolor is sort of this interesting mix of purple, pink, and brown that you can’t really tell which color is more predominant indoors. It’s a very pretty winter color to me. It looks like a sophisticated New Years Eve color to me. Or a pretty ornament. The metallic finish with the somewhat hidden multicolor only comes out in the light. Subtle, but still interesting.

In Shade

In the shade it just looks like a cool purple / brown metallic. Which is still a nice color. This was sort of a hidden gem for Laur and I to stumble on in her mom’s polish collection. The application on this polish was fine. I did a very messy application, but everything turned out fine. I did three coats for full multicolored glitter-ness and for even, saturated color. I am really liking this polish.

Lauren and I are going to try to stay warm shopping for new polish and beauty products today that we can’t wait to blog about!

Essie: Alligator Purse

I would like to say hello to all the new readers that have stopped by the past couple days. It is honestly something very exciting for Lauren and myself. We just think it’s very fun and cool to have lots of views and know people like to stop by during the day!

I stumbled upon Alligator Purse in the clearance section the other day while shopping. I don’t really have many orange polishes, specifically cremes so I thought why not. I also liked the name. This polish is originally from the Bring on The Bling collection of 2007. An oldie but goody.

In Shade

First I would like to mention that the formula of this polish was seriously like butter. It covered so well and smooth. It was completely opaque in one coat and was just heaven. I was so thrilled. And the color its selfish a “burnt orange”.  And orange with some brown in it. It’s a very pretty fall color. It just reminds me of Thanksgiving and those rusty brown colors that come with it.

Regular readers know I am not a huge fan of warm colors in general. They just aren’t my number one choice. But I think this is a wonderful fall color, and to be honest, I know I like it more because the rust color reminds me of my dog! She is orange /rust/golden colored. I am such a freak. But it is a color that I think is interesting and was missing from my collection. I’m glad I snatched it up, specially for the impressive application.

The week is half way over,

Liz

China Glaze: Ingrid NOTD

In Shade

Ingrid was sort of labeled as the “must get” from the Vintage Vixen collection. It was one of the first ones that I thought I needed, but it has been sold out each time I go looking for it. But recently, I got my little paws on it. When I was first applying this color, on the first coat I literally said outloud, “gross.” The first coat did NOT look nice at all. But by the time I got the second coat on, the color changed into sort of a putty, grey brown and the gold shimmer built up very nicely. Not to mention, the formula was great. Speaking of the shimmer..

In Sun

The gold micro shimmer is really pretty. Look at it in the bottle! Outdoors you can really see it, and it makes this sort of just brownish creme polish into something really cool. This polish sort of looks like it could be boring and overlooked, but it’s actually not. I’m really liking it so far.

I also recently bought a new CND top coat that I am using with Stickey. I felt comfortable using my hands and my nails felt dry just after a couple of minutes after applying, which I look for in top coats and love. I will let you all know how the chipping and wear goes, since that’s important, right?

Hope Monday ends soon,

Liz
