OPI DS: Glow

I have a huge list of new polishes I plan on buying soon. I promise I will get some new and more exciting posts going on in the near future. I’ve been pretty busy, and currently I have a huge boot obsession that is allowing little spending money for nail polish. Oops. :)

Foil-y, gorgeous bronze

The DS line if OPI’s is pretty awesome. This is a color I wouldn’t normally buy, but I remember something about it drew me to it right away. This polish is full of sparkle and is so pretty. Since it’s a neutral-y bronze / metal color, it’s not overly loud in terms of base color, and since it’s so sparkle-y, that sort of allows for this to stay in the “pretty” zone. There’s so many colors in this polish. Bronze, gold, silver…but they all melt together to create this interestingly sublet, gorgeous, warm toned, polish. It’s grown up sparkle.

Gorgeous finish and easy application

Foil finishes usually lend themselves to an easier application, for me. They dry quickly, like this one did. The formula was a bit thin, but I used three coats and got full, sparkle-y coverage. As far as application tips, I would make sure each coat is dry before you apply the next to avoid any bald spots. I also got decent wear out of this polish, which usually doesn’t happen with foils for me.

OPI DS: Signature

The OPI Designer Series is a line that is pretty awesome. Although it bares a higher price tag than regular OPIs, these holographic polishes are well worth the extra $4 since they pretty good holographics, in colors ranging from nudes to blues.

Lauren gave me this beauty for Christmas and it got lost in my sea of “untried” polishes. Her CVS also magically stocks OPI’s sometimes, DS’s included, and I think she got this one and others for less than $5. No joke!

Pinky-purple holo

Signature is an interesting color because it seems to look different on many skin tones and in different lighting. Indoors it is almost a muted, medium pinkish rose color, with holographic sparkle. But when it gets in any strong light, the color lights up and gets more depth, and of course, more holographic!

After wearing scattered, not so strong holographic polishes recently (Tronica), it’s nice to wear this stronger linear holo. It’s always good to have something to stare at that’s pretty and full of color. The formula and application on this polish was standard, no problems. I did two coats, but, I think three would have given a slightly better outcome. There’s some slight patchiness and unevenness of color on my right hand. It also dried quickly and looks pretty good anyway.

I was slightly hoping this polish would be a touch more purple, because I love purple. But the pink color that it is isn’t a typical pink, and it actually quite interesting and pretty on its own. It has some nice depth.

OPI Designer Series: Fantasy

Fantasy!!

Nail friends, do I have a treat for you today, OPI DS Fantasy!! This is one of the polishes that I found in a random bin of OPIs at CVS. I’m so glad I got it and for standard OPI price. Honestly this has changed my mind about paying full price for designer series polishes because I absolutely love this, it has easily become a new favorite. I already plan on getting more, bank account willing. This is 2 coats, but it went on dark and lovely in one. I love that it’s navy because most of the other dark blues I have are bright or purple-leaning.

Working the shimmer

Can we talk about the sparkle!? Look at it shimmer and shine. I can’t get enough of it and have been staring at it all day. I can definitely see myself wearing this color all fall and winter long regardless of what the current trend is. The brushes on these are a bit wider and I wasn’t as used to it at first so you may notice that I got quite a bit all up on my cuticles. I wouldn’t say the polish was thin or runny or anything, you just need to be mindful when switching to a wider brush.

Okay, this is the last picture, I swear. I just really want to show how deep and shimmery this color is. Obviously, these designer series polishes are serious. If you ever see them for under $10 snatch them up as fast as you can, no matter the color.

Zoya: Malia NOTD

Lauren and I hit up our favorite nail salon to buy polish from in New Orleans when I was there. Belinda’s. Belinda is the best. When we were there, they had one bottle of Demure Vixen and I told Lauren to have it because she nor I have been able to get it. However, then Belinda offered to go magically find me one by noon the next day and she did! It was wonderful. Anyway, when I was at Belinda’s I picked up Zoya Malia.

In shade

This Zoya is from the 2009 Spring Twist collection. This polish is just a nice medium purple creme. I would say it is also slightly dusty. It’s not too bright. It’s a really nice, pretty color. The application on this color was also fantastic. It was almost completely opaque with one coat. I used two and it looks smooth and clean. It also came off very easily during clean up.

The other day I saw Megan, from littlemusicboxes.blogspot.com, post a mani that I thought was pretty cute. She said it was in the August issue of Cosmo. Cosmo is one of the few magazines I don’t read so I didn’t see this nail mani article. It’s called the Blackberry Manicure. You paint your thumb a different, perhaps flashier color, because you type with your thumbs. I have a blackberry and BBM with Laur all day among texting, emailing, etc so it called to me. For mine, I used Zoya Malia on all fingers but my thumb where I used OPI DS Amethyst on my thumbs:

I stare at my nail polish during most of the day anyway, so it’s been fun to have this light purple holo on my thumbs for texting!

Can any of you not stand all your tips not being the same color? Or do you like to sometimes do one a different color? It’s been enjoyable for me.

CVS Haul

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a good holiday weekend. Mine wasn’t much, I’m in the process of moving and don’t have electricity or internet right now. So this morning when I needed to get out of my place I wandered over to CVS and found two spectacular sights: two random buckets filled with OPI polishes and (finally) a display for the Milani Liquid Metal collection that I had been coveting.

Now, someone had maliciously tried to hide the Milanis from me, they were practically all gone, I’m assuming because they were going for 50% off. I did manage to discover 3 remaining bottles, but unfortunately since I can’t update from home I don’t remember exactly what colors I bought. I know I have Melt With U (I think the darker red?) and Molten Rock (teal-blue), but I can’t remember the name of the other one. I’m still searching for Hot Metal, which is the purple one.

Milani Liquid Metals

The buckets of OPI were mostly filled with the Hong Kong Collection, but I did find a few other things in there. I got Friar Friar Pants On Fire, which is supposedly part of OPI Classics, but I’ve never seen it before and the color struck me as something I would really like. Probably the biggest prize of all is OPI DS Fantasy, which I got for $8.50 because CVS doesn’t know any better.

Very excited to try all of these! I have so many polishes to use. I swatched them pretty quickly on my nails in the store to see what I was getting, they all looked really nice and went on well. Milani Molten Rock looks like a less green version of Zoya Charla, similar, but not an exact dupe. Unfortunately my nails need a little TLC right now due to some peeling I discovered so I’m going to have to treat them and go naked for a couple days. Let’s hope I get internet soon!

OPI Designer Series: Amethyst

Amethyst in Sun! OMG!

First of all, I would like to say hey to all the new readers we have had stop by today thanks to our new twitter account (Follow us!  twitter.com/PickYrPoisonLLT). It is seriously SO exciting for all of us here at Death By Polish and it has literally made my week. I’m so happy.

Now to the INSANITY that is this polish. I have zero idea why on earth I never took the time to buy one of these polishes until last week. Everytime I would see them I would think, “$13? Yeah, it looks cool but $13?” Which is also really funny since I ordered this online so I actually paid $13 + shipping. Stupid me.

This is Amethyst. I actually think the person I ordered this off of Ebay sent me the wrong color, but I do not care at all. I LOVE purple and just look at this polish! I feel like I am being hypnotised by how awesome this holographic polish is. I recently saw Megan’s post over at littlemusicboxes.blogspot.com swatch all of these and it just convinced me I needed them all. I used two thick coats of this polish and it applied perfectly. I had no trouble at all with it. I literally can not wait to purchase more of these as soon as possible. Like, yesterday.

Amethyst in Partly Sunny

Orly has a new line of polishes coming out for fall that are called Orly – Cosmic FX and I feel as though they are going to be in response to this line of OPI’s. There are going to be six Orly Cosmic FX’s. They polishes have  mineral pieces, crystal, and glass in them. The glass part sounds sort of strange, but the photos I have seen of them look amazing. Lots of cool toned shades, which are my favorite. So shimmery and pigmented.  I can not wait for them to be released.

I also wanted to mentioned that my Sally Hansen Complete mani lasted for the better part of 3 full days and I’m very pleased with that!
