Deborah Lippmann: I Know What Boys Like

When I first saw this summer 2011 color come out, I knew I was going to love it. I loved how it has this really beautiful balance of both blue and purple. I had been meaning to pick it up for months now, but just recently got around to it. And I’m not disappointed at all.

I will throw in the disclaimer that my camera did (like it does with all blurples) made this look more blue than it actually is. Not drastically, but noticeable to me. I’m sorry. It sucks, I know.

Less blue in real life

I Know What Boys Like (fun name) has this harmonious balance of blue and purple. Although it’s basically a medium toned blurple creme, it’s not boring at all. It’s periwinkle-ish, but with a punch. The color is so interesting naturally. Is it purple? Is it blue? I will say that on me, it does lean more blue, but not by much. It’s feminine and pretty, but has a uniqueness to it from the blend of colors. It’s really cool.

Prefect, shiny half creme half jelly finish

The first coat of this polish did not go on so great, but by the second one it looked absolutely perfect. It was very saturated, smooth, and shiny. I only needed two coats. It’s one of ever popular half creme half jelly formulas. It also had a good drying time and wore decently on me.

Deborah Lippmann: Across The Universe

Hopefully everyone had a nice weekend. It’s currently 80 degrees outside right now, a nice surprise to my birthday weekend, it’s never this warm this time of year. All the spring flowers have started to bloom, yay!

My sister gave me this lovely polish this weekend. I recently posted about the only other Deborah Lippmann polish that I have, Call Me Irresponsible, and even though I didn’t have a positive opinion about that polish, I was so excited to receive this beauty! Across The Universe is like a dream to any polish lover.

Blue jelly with green and blue hexagon glitter

I’m not satisfied with these photos, it’s so much better in real life! I know many polish lovers have raved the beauty and awesomeness of this polish since it was released for the Fall 2010 duo. But it seriously deserves it. I mean, just look at it! A navy blue jelly base with green and light blue hexagon glitter AND blue micro glitter?? I love how dark the base color is, it allows the glitter to just come through and stand out.

To die for!

It’s almost obvious when I say that I don’t have anything like this polish. It’s too unique and gorgeous. Though, I won’t be fully blinded by its beauty. It is slightly difficult to get the hexagon glitter to disperse evenly. And in the sunlight, this jelly base isn’t fully opaque. Probably my fault with the application. (I’m not feeling too well, I think I have a stomach bug!) I used three coats, and each coat dried quicker than expected! And not very gritty at all to the touch.

Regardless I will say that this polish is a hands down must have for anyone who collects polish. It’s so beautiful, like a work of art. I can’t stop staring at the bottle!

Deborah Lippmann: Call Me Irresponsible

With the new yellow jelly Deborah Lippmann polish Yellow Brick Road being released very soon, I wanted to revisit the only Lippmann polish that I own. I have been excited about Yellow Brick Road since I saw bottle photos and heard “yellow jelly”.

Look how pretty this color looks in the bottle. A blue based purple jelly polish. The color in the bottle is glorious. I love purple and the tone of this one is awesome. The first time I used this polish, I was 100% disappointed in the outcome and I hate to say it again, especially because I spent $16 on this polish, I still hate it. A lot.

Streaky, not well pigmented, uneven color

I realize that jellies take about three coats to get an even, pigmented, and opaque finish. After three coats, this polish is none of those things. It’s streaky, it’s uneven, and not well pigmented at all. The color doesn’t seem to build correctly. For a polish that costs almost $20, I expect higher quality and a better product. This polish seems like a $2 polish I picked up at the drugstore. My nails on my right hand look awful, they are so streaky and covered in bald spots. Also, I know jelly formulas are also thin, but this one is thinner than usual as well.

Totally different color than in bottle! Yuck!

Let’s move on to the second problem with this nail polish after the formula issue, the color issue. As mentioned, the polish in the bottle looks like a cool toned blue based purple. An awesome color.

The color that comes out on the nail is a VERY red based purple. It’s so warm. And it’s so obvious and noticeable, nothing caused from a camera or lighting. I know it’s not my skin tone causing it to lean since I have read other reviews of this polish, and like I said it’s too much of a difference to be something like that. I always prefer bluer purples, so this is another let down regarding this polish.

Overall, this polish is a complete fail on multiple tries. I know this is the only DL polish I own, and lots of other ones are much cooler and creative polishes that also seem to have a better delivery on the nails. A better experience overall. I was completely looking forward to buying Yellow Brick Road as soon as I could, however remembering and reliving this DL jelly polish is making me wait til I can read and see reviews from other bloggers.

Did anyone else have a similar experience with this polish? Or is my bottle just a bad apple? On the plus side, I do love the DL bottles.

Deborah Lippman Yellow Brick Road

I mean, I have to post about this because it’s all the rage on the internet with us addicts. For me, this looks awesome. I’m not really sure I would wear it on my toes, however for my hands, give me one please! I keep imaging it with a fun, floral dress for summer.

What are you guys thinking about this yellow jelly? Do you think this is going to be awesome? I hear Chanel is launching a yellow for summer as well. It’s going to be the summer color for sure.

What do you think the other color going to be for this Spring 2011 Wizard of Oz duo? I have no idea! I’d die if it was a green.
